While viewing the Spring 2013 couture collections a pattern of inspiration from centuries past became evident. With women being denied many currently basic civil rights, fashion was a firm distraction from the realities of the world. Through the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries decorative embroidered pieces, slightly elevated waists with wide puff skirts and exquisite fabrics including lace, satin, silk, and velvet were en vogue. Wigs, hats, fans and parasols were accessories of choice. Opulence was important. Enjoy a few of this season's most luxurious looks.
