Swamped...but never too busy for SWEETS!!!

I have been crazed with schoolwork (design education never stops) and prepping the costumes for an upcoming feature, Speed Dating. With every waking hour occupied by these major undertakings, family and traveling to the 1001 wedding or new baby festivities that I have had to attend this year (sigh) it is difficult to find new bits that excite me. However I am NEVER too swamped for SWEETS!!!!! Working with style consultant and designer behind the ultra-hip Street Chic accessory line (http://www.streetchicbyjesszaino.com/), Jess Zaino, I bumped into a little jewel of a bake shop. Vanilla is a haven of melt in your mouth cupcakes and other sweet treats. My favorites are the passion fruit mini cupcakes and french macaroons! I actually dream about these things! The light, flaky exterior houses an ooey, gooey, chewy center of vanilla, berry, coffee, chocolate or one of the other feature flavors! Doesn't it sound exciting??? Almost worth the extra thigh-meat that I am sure to grow as a result of my new found indulgence!!!!

It's Hot in the Kitchen!

I've been swamped with work and school....and neglecting my blog, but I did find time to get hooked on a new show, the Chef Jeff Project, on the Food Network. Chef Jeff has taken 6 at-risk youth to teach them the art of food! Yum!!! If they finish the kitchen bootcamp they will be awarded with a 2-year scholarship to a culinary institute. Now that's hot! Obama-bilia!!!

I know it has been a while, but I have been in NY participating in fashion week festivities. I have never really enjoyed fashion week, but participation is advised when you're scratching your way to the top of the fashion food chain. There were so many interesting points (I'll feature some highights into the blog as they relate to other issues) but the most striking trend that I observed is Obama-bilia. The presidential race is increasingly creeping into new aspects of our life, but this one is moving to me. I am of the belief that you don't have to compromise intellect to be fashionable, and the trend of subtly incorporating political support accessories is fabulous! It helps that I am seeing more of this practice among Barack Obama supporters....being one myself as a former resident of Chicago, IL, advocate for higher education, and general fan of ideas that make sense. Now the news is trying to make Sarah Palin a fashion icon.....whoa Nelly! Icon....now that's fashion blaspheme! This just goes to show how style commentary should be left to the experts;-) Check out a pic of my friend, David....he's so hip and a quintessential example of how to make a statement without trying too hard. Glam God with Vivica Fox Premiers

Well the secret is out of the bag. The new VH-1 reality show, Glam God with Vivica Fox, has debuted. 12 stylists converge in a downtown LA loft to compete for the title of Glam God, $100k, a contract with an agency, and the chance to style an A-list celebrity for a red carpet event. Sounds exciting! It was. The cast east of the Rockies (Matt, Indashio, Tigerlily, Handry) had a pre-premier fete in NYC on Wednesday, and the LA cast (moi, Jess, Chris, Bo, Preston, Joachim) gathered for a premier screening. Yes I am ON the show...not just working behind the scenes. The images from the NY event lead me to believe it was a good night. Thursday's party was wonderful...not about Hollywood drama, ego or pretense, but genuine support! The people more than filled the space to see the first episode of the show, meet the cast, and revel in our moment. Everyone looked stylish...and of course camera ready;-) Apparently the panel had a party that we weren't invited to, but it didn't matter because we couldn't have asked for more love than our family, friends, colleagues and some media;-D could offer. My team won the first challenge...yay team! I know I didn't say much...or so it appeared, but that means there were fewer opportunities to embarrass my mother or come off like the mad stylist. Welcome to my blog, Life in Style......(audience applause.) I have wanted to share my thoughts on the subject for some time, without the reigns of an editor guiding my typing fingers, but everbody has dues...and bills...to pay. It is amazing how differently you look at things when you have to see it through someone else's eyes.
